About Me

Greetings everybody, I'm Nathrien! I'm a bit of a gamer on both console and PC and I'm no stranger to tabletop games either. I've been playing games since I was five years old, when I picked up my very first NES controller. Little did I know that my first encounter with Super Mario Bros. 3 would start me down a long, yet enjoyable path, to modern games like Final Fantasy XIV, Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U, and (though not so modern) Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition. However, I do spend most of my time on the PC grouping with friends while juggling several MMOs. Periodically, I hop on the PS2 or the SNES for some retro game time!

I'm also a gaming community leader for Game On, formerly known as Turning of the Tide. Those of us that started in LOTRO have branched out, covering a multitude of games, and founded this multiplatforming community.  With these people, I've seen the rise and fall of guilds, witnessed players burning out left and right, discovered the many tastes of gamers (including, but not limited to PvE, and PvP, social events), and so on. Basically, I've been around the proverbial block enough times that I hope to share my thoughts on an array of subjects and not just the games themselves. It's my goal to contribute something meaningful here, within this small sliver of the internet.

I am no stranger to blogging either. In fact, I've been blogging since 2004, back when LiveJournal was the place to go. However, many of the old, inactive journals (mine included) were deleted by the community owners to free up names, domains, and server space, over the past couple of years. Though that particular blog had very little to do with gaming and much more with my personal life, it introduced me to web writing, schedule keeping, and community building. I've managed to take those skills, and starting in 2012, founded Material Middle-earth, a fansite dedicated to Lord of the Rings Online fashion. Occasional technical difficulties aside, I maintained that project for three years, making over 150 entries. Once a year, I even covered the fashion structures of other games in attempt to compare and contrast the various systems.

By the time early 2015 rolled around, I realized I play too many games to keep focusing solely on LOTRO. My mind was constantly elsewhere and thought that it'd be a much better idea to begin a new blog to cover everything else. And thus I created Nathrien's Nook, the very blog you're sitting here reading.
